🍋✨ Maple Lane Mystery Devotional
Featuring Aimee Little
Week 2: God Lights the Way
📖 Psalm 119:105 — "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Devotional Title: “The Flicker in the Frame Shop”
It was well past closing when Aimee Little, Maple Lane’s beloved creative soul and owner of Little Light Framing & Arts, heard the flicker.
She paused mid-brushstroke—she’d been painting sunbeams into a local student’s poster for the Rec Center art show—and glanced toward the backroom where she stored extra string lights and half-used canvases. Something buzzed and blinked. Then fizzled out.
Flicker. Flicker. Darkness.
With a sigh, she set down her brush and headed back. It had been one of those days—rainy, long, and filled with too many unfinished conversations and cloudy moods. A class at the Rec Center had been canceled. Her favorite tea shop ran out of lemon ginger. And she’d just felt… dim.
Her fingers found the faulty bulb, and she whispered, “Please don’t let it be the wiring again.” But as she reached to twist the bulb, she caught a glimpse of the tiny verse she’d hand-lettered months ago and taped just above the breaker box:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
It hit her—right there, under buzzing lights and leftover projects. She had let the day’s gloom dull her focus. She’d been trying to fix everything herself—every schedule conflict, every mood, every moment—without remembering that God had already offered the light. She just hadn’t turned her attention toward it.
The lights blinked back on. Coincidence? Maybe. But it made her smile. “Thank You, God,” she whispered, “for lighting the way when I stop trying to be my own flashlight.”
🕯️ Devotional Thought:
God’s Word isn’t a spotlight on the entire future—it’s a lamp for the next right step. And sometimes, that’s all we really need. Whether you’re leading kids through crafts or feeling a little lost yourself, He’ll light the way when you turn toward Him.
🎨 Activity: Create a “Light Frame”
Just like Aimee Little’s art shop, make a small frame using construction paper or popsicle sticks. Inside, place the memory verse:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Decorate the frame with stars, suns, candles—anything that reminds you that God lights your next step.
💛 Journal Prompt:
Think of a time when you felt stuck, unsure, or like your light had gone out.
-
What helped you take the next step?
-
What might God be whispering to you in the flicker moments?
-
Write a short prayer: “Lord, light my path today in…”
🌟 Family/Group Question:
“What helps you feel God’s light when your day feels dim?”
