Advent season: HOPE: ๐ŸŒŸ Day 1 — “The Light in the Window”

๐ŸŒŸ Day 1 — “The Light in the Window”

The light in the window was a welcome sight. It warmed Tori Rae’s heart in just the perfect way. She was wanted. It was something she needed to hear, even if it was a note she was offering to herself.

The soft glow reminded her that someone inside had hope of a visit — a friend, a family member, maybe even a stranger needing comfort.

At Maplewood Baptist, a small lamp shone in every window all year long. It flickered hope along Elm Street, chasing away the ghosts of loneliness and fear. Its message was silent but sure:

We’re here. Come for a visit, a talk, a cup of coffee or tea — and stay awhile.

Now, as she stood outside the Maple Spice Inn, that same warmth spilled across the snow-covered walkway. Her sister Mauve and their friend Kit Carlyle, both bakers at Bakewell’s, were inside helping the new owner prepare for the season. Tori hadn’t met them yet, but she could feel it — something good was waiting beyond that door.

It was already dark by five-thirty, yet that glow from within the inn reached her soul. Maybe, just maybe, she could find peace again after her father’s untimely passing.

She whispered a prayer as the first Advent candle flickered in her mind:

“Lord, thank You for every light that reminds me I am not forgotten.”

Scripture:

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

Reflection Prompt:
When have you seen a “light in the window” — a gesture of hope or welcome that helped you remember you belong?

Creative Prompt:
Sketch or paint a window glowing against the night sky. Write a short note or prayer of welcome to place in your own window.

Self-Care:
Turn on a soft lamp tonight and let it glow while you rest. Remember, God’s love keeps its light on for you.
