Clue: The Mystery at Faithful Grove - art or writing prompts

I had created some fun Clue the Game inspired art prompts over at my Creative You Blog to use to get me more in an art or writing mood. I used fruit and veggies, Asian fusion with a 50's Diner theme and a birds and woodland creatures theme. (Go here to check it out: creative-you.blogspot.com )

This version is a church-faith-based Clue-style art and storytelling prompt experience that combines fun, imagination, and spiritual themes! This version can be used as an art game, creative devotional, or even a community-building activity during a Bible study, church retreat, or youth group series.

✝️ Clue: The Mystery at Faithful Grove

An Interactive Art + Devotion Prompt Experience

A great mystery has struck the peaceful village of Faithful Grove, home to a humble little chapel, a tight-knit church family, and a legacy of deep faith and warm fellowship. But something holy and precious has gone missing… or been mysteriously altered.

Was it a misplaced communion chalice?
A sabotaged hymn arrangement?
A missing sermon page just before the Easter service?

One thing’s clear: it’s a spiritual mystery—and one of the faithful might know more than they’re letting on!

You’ve been called to create the scene—through illustration, writing, music, or dramatic retelling—based on your randomized prompt.

🎭 Step 1: Choose a Character

Each character reflects a spiritual archetype with some personality:

  • Sister Grace – the warm-hearted organist with a past as a jazz pianist.

  • Pastor Shepherd – the ever-smiling shepherd with a deep voice and deeper secrets.

  • Elder Timothy – old-school in suit and tie, but always watching.

  • Deacon Olive – nurturing, wise, and rumored to have a secret pie recipe that hasn’t been shared since 1989.

  • Youth Leader Blaze – tattooed, energetic, and always showing up with coffee and deep questions.

  • Miss Velma Drake – the quiet prayer warrior, and armchair sleuth, whose journal pages are filled with prophecies… maybe even clues.

  • Deacon James North- Head Deacon and first to offer help when someone is in trouble, former police officer, and community watch leader

  • Former Pastor Stone - he left after a bit of a scandal but wants to prove he was always on God's team, now high school football coach and teacher of drivers ed.

🛠️ Step 2: Select the Instrument of Disruption

(Not deadly, just… symbolically significant!)

  • The Fractured Chalice – a communion cup with a mysterious crack.

  • The Out-of-Tune Hymnal – someone’s switched all the notes.

  • The Missing Page – from Pastor's sermon notes or the Book of Isaiah?

  • The Switched Scripture – John 3:16 replaced by an obscure genealogy.

  • The Blotted Baptismal Log – names smudged out... who was baptized?

  • The Unlit Candle – from the Advent wreath or altar, its flame mysteriously gone.

  • Missing Surveillance System  - when a former pastor wants to prove his innocence, the old back up surveillance contraption goes missing

🕍 Step 3: Pick the Sacred Scene (Location)

Where did the incident happen?

  • The Prayer Garden – still, quiet, with fluttering paper prayers.

  • The Fellowship Hall – lively and cluttered after the potluck.

  • The Baptismal Pool – covered and silent, echoing with secrets.

  • The Youth Loft – full of beanbags, string lights, and hidden notes.

  • The Bell Tower – rarely visited... but someone’s been there.

  • The Sunday School Room – crayon drawings and memory verse cards scattered.

  • Deacon North's Wood Shed - where he made the iconic wooden cross displayed on the pipes of the old organ.

🎨 Your Creative Prompt:

Randomly select (or intentionally choose) one Character, one Instrument of Disruption, and one Sacred Scene.

Then, write, draw, paint, or describe:

  • What happened?

  • Is your character innocent or suspicious?

  • How does the object tie into a deeper theme (e.g., forgiveness, grace, humility, repentance, faith)?

  • Is there redemption in the story—or does the mystery remain?

🔍 Example Prompt:

Elder Timothy with The Fractured Chalice in The Bell Tower.

Scene Sketch: Elder Timothy stands beside the bell, gazing at the old communion chalice in his hand—now cracked down the side. He looks out over the silent village, whispering a prayer. Did he drop it—or did he find it this way? The light filters in through the slats, casting cross-shaped shadows. A single page from the old liturgical book flutters on the floor behind him... Revealing Velma Drake has been following her clues again. Drat!

📖 Faith Tie-In Options (Optional Devotion Layer):

If you'd like to include scripture or a Bible reflection:

  • Forgiveness – Colossians 3:13

  • Restoration – Joel 2:25

  • Truth & Secrets – Luke 8:17

  • Humility – Philippians 2:3

  • Unity in the Body – 1 Corinthians 12

  • Spiritual Warfare – Ephesians 6:10-18
