Church Revitalization - my favorite ideas
Wonderful choices — those elements are personal, powerful, and practical, especially for a church that values tradition but is open to a Spirit-led renewal. Let’s develop each of these more fully so you can begin sharing and implementing them with confidence and grace:
✌️ 2 & You – A Simple Revitalization Challenge
Purpose: Empower each member to pray for and personally reach out to two people — neighbors, family, or old friends — with intentionality.
How to Launch:
-
Present it during a Sunday message or fellowship time.
-
Provide cards or bookmarks that say:
2 & You Challenge
Pray for 2 people.
Love them like Jesus.
Invite them to something life-giving.
-
Encourage people to write the names of their two on the back and keep the card in their Bible or on their fridge.
Monthly Touchpoints:
-
Celebrate stories: “Who has seen God moving through their 2?”
-
Invite testimonies (even simple ones like, “I had coffee with my niece for the first time in years”).
📓 Prompt Journal Devotion Series
A Gentle Invitation to Grow Spiritually — One Prompt at a Time
Title: “Bit by Bit: Drawing Closer to God”
This can be a print handout, bulletin insert, or email. A new entry every Sunday for 6–8 weeks.
Sample Weekly Format:
-
Scripture: Psalm 25:4 — “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.”
-
Prompt: What is one area of your life you feel uncertain in?
-
Reflective Question: Where do you need God's guidance most this week?
-
Prayer Line: “God, I want to follow where You lead, even if I don’t know what’s next.”
Encourage members to bring their journal responses to a small group or prayer time once a month for deeper connection.

🎶 Hymn Story Moment + Modern Arrangements
1. Hymn Story Moment
Before singing a traditional hymn, share:
-
The story behind its writing
-
The struggle or faith walk of the writer
-
Why it still matters today
Example: “It Is Well with My Soul”
“Horatio Spafford wrote this hymn after losing all four of his daughters in a shipwreck. He passed over the very spot of the tragedy when he penned the line, ‘When sorrows like sea billows roll...’ It reminds us that even in the worst pain, faith can anchor us.”
2. Modern Arrangements to Try
-
“Come Thou Fount (I Will Sing)” – Chris Tomlin
-
“Be Thou My Vision” – Audrey Assad
-
“Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” – Chris Tomlin
-
“In Christ Alone” – Keith & Kristyn Getty
Start by playing these via YouTube or Spotify quietly during fellowship time or offering.
Optional Add-On:
-
Create a “Hymns Then & Now” Sunday with half-traditional, half-modern arrangements and invite feedback afterward.
