Sunny U Week 4 devotional

Here's a Sunny U – Week 4 devotional featuring Georgia Bailey, the skeptical member of the Maple Lane Mystery crew. This cozy devotional ties into the weekly theme:

🌄 Maple Lane Mystery Devotional

Featuring: Georgia Bailey
Week 4: “God’s Plan in the Peaks and Valleys”
📖 Jeremiah 29:11–13 & Romans 8:28
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you..."
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him..."

Devotional Title: "The Case of the Broken Brushstrokes"

The Maplewood Rec Center’s Hope Through Art show was supposed to be a feel-good community event. But when Georgia Bailey arrived with her sketchpad tucked under her arm, she didn’t feel hopeful—she felt obligated.

Art wasn’t about faith, it was about fact. Texture, shading, control. You didn’t pray your way through watercolor. You practiced.

But that day something was off.

Aimee Little, the town’s vibrant creative soul, had found her studio vandalized—splattered paint, broken brushes, even a canvas that had been shredded. It rattled the whole community.

Rita thought it was a message. Lane wondered if a kid from the community program had acted out. Georgia? She rolled her eyes. “Sometimes things just go wrong. Not everything has to mean something.”

Later that afternoon, while helping clean up, Georgia found one of Aimee’s works—untouched—hidden behind a cabinet. A simple painting of a valley trail with the words “He walks with me through it.”

That night, she sat alone at her desk sketching. But her lines were stiff. Her heart, heavy.

The next day, Aimee returned, cheerful despite the damage. She handed Georgia a blank canvas and said gently, “Even broken brushstrokes can paint something beautiful when you trust the Artist.”

That was the moment it started.

Georgia didn’t convert on the spot. But something inside her shifted. Maybe—just maybe—this valley she was walking through was part of something bigger.

🌱 Devotional Thought:

Georgia’s skepticism kept her guarded, but God gently used the valley moment of loss at the Rec Center to begin breaking down her walls. Sometimes when things fall apart, God is quietly building something new.
Even when you don’t understand the why, He’s already at work shaping the what’s next.

✍️ Journal Prompt:

  • Think of a time when things didn’t go the way you expected.

  • Did anything good eventually come from that season?

  • How can you begin to trust God’s plan in a situation that still feels unresolved?

📝 Write: “God, I don’t see the whole picture, but I trust You’re painting something good in my life. Help me to follow Your brushstrokes.”

🖼️ Activity: “The Valley Frame”

Draw a valley scene or print a simple one. Write the words of Jeremiah 29:11 inside the valley. Put it somewhere you’ll see it during the week as a reminder that God’s plan doesn’t stop in the low places.

🧩 Bonus Group Question:

“What’s one moment in your life that felt like a ‘valley’ but now, looking back, you see God’s hand in it?”
