πŸ₯ΎπŸ” Maple Lane Mystery Devotional

Featuring: Lane Larson & Rita Logan
Week 3: “God Is My Helper”
πŸ“– Psalm 121:1–2 — “I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Devotional Title: “The Trail Trouble at Maple Ridge”

It was supposed to be an easy Saturday hike.

Rita Logan had packed light: notebook, compass, and her usual curiosity. Lane Larson, always the trail-ready one, had brought extra water, granola bars, and his dad’s emergency flashlight—“just in case.”

They’d heard whispers around the Rec Center that the Maple Ridge trail marker had been moved. Some kids claimed a strange fog had rolled in near the overlook. Others said they’d heard voices—soft ones—whispering from the trees.

“Could be squirrels,” Lane had said with a grin.
“Could be sabotage,” Rita replied. And off they went.

Halfway up the ridge, the mist rolled in fast. Their footing grew unsure. The path twisted away from the usual pine-scented clearing and into unfamiliar thickets.

Rita’s heart pounded. “This doesn’t look right.”

Lane turned, steadier than she felt. “I know. But don’t panic.” He paused and added, “Let’s do what my grandma taught me when I got lost in the woods as a kid—look up.”

They both tilted their heads.

Beyond the fog, the ridge rose gently toward the sky, and through the mist, the faint outline of a cross—yes, a wooden one from the Easter sunrise service still stood at the top.

“I lift my eyes to the hills…” Rita whispered. “Where does my help come from?”

Lane nodded. “From the Lord.”

They didn’t need GPS. Just trust. And maybe each other.

They made it out—with scratches, laughs, and a newfound understanding: God doesn’t always move the fog, but He always helps you through it.

🏞️ Devotional Thought:

Life gets foggy sometimes—twisting trails, unexpected turns, moments of doubt. But like Rita and Lane discovered, help comes when we look up. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to remember where your help comes from.

✍️ Journal Prompt:

  • Think about a moment where you felt lost, confused, or uncertain.

  • Who or what helped you move forward?

  • How can you “look up” today and invite God into your situation?

Write a short prayer:
πŸ“ “Lord, I need help with ____. Show me how to trust You when the path isn’t clear.”

πŸ”¦ Family/Group Discussion:

“Who is someone you can turn to when you need help—and how do they remind you of God’s help?”

🧭 Activity: “Helper Compass”

Create a paper compass. Label North = “Pray,” East = “Ask,” South = “Trust,” West = “Wait.”
Use it during the week to check in with yourself and God when you face a challenge.
