Hidden Words, Everyday Faith, a text-based devotional

Hidden Words, Everyday Faith

Characters: Faith and Noah (texting)

Setting: Mid-week, late evening. Faith is winding down, Noah is just getting home from a late work event.

Scene:

Faith: Hey you. You home yet? Just settled in on the sofa. Feeling a little… quiet tonight.

Noah: Just walked in. Long one. How was your day? Everything okay?

Faith: Yeah, good. Just thinking. About that sermon Sunday. About hidden words. The pastor talked about how sometimes God speaks to us in ways we don't immediately recognize. Like little nudges or coincidences.

Noah: Hmm. Yeah, I remember that. I was trying to remember what verse he quoted about it. Something about seeking and finding?

Faith: Not exactly. More like, "Be still, and know that I am God." But in our everyday. Like how we can find Him in the mundane. In the quiet moments after a long day.

Noah: Interesting. So, if I'm looking for a hidden word from God right now, what would it be? My hidden word is probably "sleep." 😂

Faith: Haha! Maybe. But maybe it's something more. What’s something good that happened today? Even a small thing.

Noah: Good question. Let's see… The coffee shop barista actually remembered my order. That felt like a win. Small, but still.

Faith: See! There it is. A small moment of connection, a reminder that we’re seen, even by a stranger. Maybe that's a little whisper. Or a hidden word of grace in your day.

Noah: Grace from a barista. I like that. I guess I hadn't thought of it that way. It's easy to just rush through and miss those things.

Faith: Totally. And sometimes it's hard to recognize them as anything more than just random occurrences. But what if they're not? What if they're little breadcrumbs leading us to something bigger?

Noah: So, our everyday lives are full of these hidden words? Little messages tucked into the ordinary?

Faith: Exactly! Like when you found that old photo of us last week, the one from our first picnic. That felt like a little hidden word of joy to me. A reminder of where we started.

Noah: You’re right. I just thought it was cool to find. But you're making me see it differently. Like a little nudge from above, reminding us to appreciate the journey.

Faith: Precisely. It makes me wonder what other hidden words we’re walking past every day. What if we actively looked for them?

Noah: That's… kind of a cool challenge. Like a spiritual scavenger hunt. Okay, so my hidden word for today, beyond just the barista, is probably the feeling of finally being home. Like peace.

Faith: Yes! And mine is the quiet hum of the washing machine, knowing everything's clean for tomorrow. A hidden word of provision.

Noah: Okay, I'm liking this. So, "Hidden Words" isn't just about a secret message, it's about seeing God in the everyday, even when it feels ordinary.

Faith: Exactly. It makes the everyday feel a little less ordinary, doesn't it? More… sacred.

Noah: Yeah. It does. Thanks for this. It's a much better way to end the day than just thinking about spreadsheets. 😉

Faith: Anytime. Sleep well. And keep an eye out for those hidden words tomorrow.

Noah: You too. And I will. Goodnight.
